Using View Controls
View controls are used to manipulate a view, the portion of the design displayed in a view window. The most commonly used view controls can be selected in the Main toolbox docked to the top of the application window.
Some of the most useful view controls include the following:
- Pan View , which is used to view a different part of the design without changing the view magnification.
- Rotate View , which is used to rotate a view.
- Window Area , which is used to define a smaller area to display in the selected view.
- Fit View , which is used to fit the entire model in a view (for the "big picture" or to get your bearings).
- View Previous , which is used like an Undo function to negate previous viewing operations, as many as eight per view.
View Controls and Workflow
View controls operate much like tools; many even have "tool" settings.
The interaction between view controls and tools results in an intuitive, comfortable workflow:
Locating and Selecting View Controls
View controls are located as follows:
- The Tools ribbon group in the tab of the ribbon.
- The Main toolbox, which contains the most commonly used view controls, is docked by default to the top of the application window.
- If View ToolBox is on in the Windows menu, the view control bar is docked by default to the top of each view window.
- In any case, view controls are located in the View Control toolbox. The procedure for locating a view control in a toolbox is the same as that for locating a tool in a toolbox.
